#rnrchi training: week 7
Ugh. This past week kicked my butt. Not only was it a busy week, with cross country camp for Matt, swimming lessons for MacKenna, and papers galore for me, but my training just really suffered this week. Maybe it's because I've reached that halfway point of training where I'm really just trying not to get burnt out, but I have a feeling a lot of it stems from not properly fueling myself and not doing ANY strength training whatsoever. You'd think that since I'm off in the summer, I'd have all the time in the world to get my training and a good strength training sessions in. But, with 2 kids and 3 graduate classes and wanting to spend some time enjoying my summer, extra stuff just kind of falls off. Plus, I really like sleep. Like a lot. And I still feel like I'm catching up on it from the little I got during the school year. I just don't want to drive to the gym to workout for 30 minutes, when I can just get my run in while Miles is still sleeping and before I need to nurse him. But, it has definitely made my training suffer. I'm also not used to really training for much in the summer either. Usually it's my off season, or like 2 years ago, my time to train for triathlon and not focus on running so much. Training for a half in the summer has not been fun and I'm not sure I will do it again. I miss my speed and it's really disappointing to watch my speed deteriorate this summer. Oh well. I wasn't planning to PR anyway. Now that I've complained enough, here's that not-so-glorious week of training:Monday: 5 mile easy run (8:08 pace)Tuesday: 5 minute warmup, 8 x 400m w/ 1 minute recoveries, 5 minute cool down (4 miles @ 7:47 pace)Wednesday: 3 mile easy run (8:14 pace)Thursday: 4 mile easy run (8:03 pace)Friday: 1000m swim - 200m warm up, 5 x 50m @ 90s, 100m easy, 5 x 50m @ 90s, 200m cool downSaturday: 10 mile long run (8:20 pace)Sunday: OFFTotal: 26 milesI'm certainly hoping this week goes better. I know my paces aren't horrible, but these runs certainly have felt anything but easy. I'm hoping running feels easy again sometime soon...
