PODCAST: SETTING INTENTIONS THAT STICK TO MAKE 2025 YOUR BREAKTHROUGH YEAR

Grow a successful business without working more hours! Introducing the 4-Day Work Week Blueprint - get yours now and have time for family + achieve your goals!

January feels like one of the strangest months. It’s both endless and fleeting. One minute, you’re clinking glasses on New Year’s Eve, and the next, it’s the end of the month, and your resolutions are already gathering dust.

Here’s the good news…

Your goals don’t have to start perfectly on January 1. There’s no expiration date on pursuing what matters to you.

In this post, I’m diving into why resetting your resolutions – even weeks (or months) into the year – is one of the best decisions you can make.

Lesson 1: There’s No Rule That Says January 1 Is the Only Start Date

Let’s get one thing straight: New Year’s Day is a symbolic fresh start, but it’s not your ONLY opportunity to begin.

For example, one of my goals this year is to walk or run 1,000 miles. It’s a big goal, but totally doable when broken into smaller daily efforts. I was ready to hit the ground running – literally – on January 1. Then, a snowstorm hit.

Ten inches of snow kept me stuck indoors during the first week of January. At first, I felt defeated. But then I realized…

My goal wasn’t ruined just because I didn’t start on time. I could pick up where I left off and adjust my pace.

The same applies to any goal. Whether you’re starting late, restarting after a break, or adjusting midstream, what matters is that you start.

Lesson 2: Progress Beats Perfection Every Time

This is where we often get stuck…

We believe that if we don’t get it right from the start, we’ve failed.

But what if progress – not perfection – was the real win?

Take your resolutions or goals and reframe them. Instead of asking, “How much did I miss?” ask, “What can I do next?” The simple act of focusing on your next step moves you closer to the finish line.

In 2020, I heard the phrase, “let it go.” It became my unplanned word of the year. That lesson – letting go of perfection – allowed me to embrace what I COULD do instead of dwelling on what I couldn’t.

Lesson 3: Pick a Word (or Phrase) to Guide You

If you haven’t chosen a word of the year yet, now is the perfect time. Your word can help you focus your actions and decisions as the year unfolds.

For example, my word this year is breakthrough

When I make decisions, I ask myself: What would the “December 31st version of me” do? Would she skip posting on social media because she’s tired? Would she avoid reaching out to someone because it’s intimidating? No way.

Your word of the year doesn’t have to be perfect or final. It’s just a guidepost – a way to center your intentions and priorities.

Lesson 4: Every Day Is a Fresh Start

Your goals don’t need to begin or end based on the calendar. Whether you’re revisiting a goal, picking a new one, or adjusting as you go, today is a fresh start.

Remember: Even if your January didn’t go as planned, you still have 11 more months to make this year remarkable. What matters most is how you keep showing up.

If you’re feeling stuck or like the year is slipping away, let this be your sign to reset. Your goals are still possible, and your dreams are still worth chasing.

What’s your next step? Whether it’s picking a word, adjusting your pace, or starting fresh today, you’ve got this.
