memorial day weekend
Hope everyone is enjoying a long Memorial Day weekend! And a HUGE thank you to all the service men + women fighting for our country, past and present.
We have definitely been enjoying our holiday weekend. Matt is FINALLY done with his track season – he spent Thursday + Friday in Jeff City for the state track meet, and is now officially finished! So, we went out to celebrate, but decided to go for something a little different this time.
Tropical Sno has been open for about 3 summer’s now. It is actually on my normal running route, but amazingly, we have never been. Well, actually, I’m just not a huge fan of sno cones. (Have you noticed I pretty much NEVER get fruit in my ice cream?) Sugar ice just doesn’t hit the spot for my normally. However, a few weeks ago, we were making some for Field Day at school, and I got hooked. A perfectly refreshing treat on a hot summer day.
I decided to get something cocktail-flavored since I am not drinking for awhile. I am also addicted to anything peach or orange flavored right now, so a Fuzzy Navel just sounded like the perfect combination for a sno cone. Matt went for the Tigers Blood, which is all the tropical flavors combined, with cream on top. He has been wanting to try cream on a sno cone for awhile, so this was the perfect opportunity.
The Fuzzy Navel definitely hit the spot. So nice + refreshing, and the ice was shaved perfectly. No big chunks to chew through – just melt in your mouth yumminess. Matt’s was also delicious – the coconut flavor overpowered it a bit, but the cream really made his sno cone. I don’t regret not getting cream on mine, but I might try that next time… and there WILL be a next time.
We followed up Friday night by taking a nice trip south for the weekend to our Matt’s favorite place in the world.
Since track is over and it’s been 2 months since we’ve been, we decided a day in Branson sounded like a nice little retreat. We did some shopping, ran into some college friends (Hi Christie + Sasha! I swear I can’t go anywhere without seeing someone I know), and spent the rest of Saturday + most of Sunday in Silver Dollar City.
Of course, no trip to Branson can go without including my favorite stop!
I really, really try not to get the same thing every time I go to Andy’s since they always have amazing specials. So, I decided to pass up stuff I’ve already had and went for the Ooey Gooey Concrete – vanilla custard with Heath bar, caramel, and almonds mixed in. Of course, I still can’t really do nuts in my custard, so I got mine without.
Ooey Gooey and so delicious! Their caramel is super buttery, almost like a butterscotch, but a million times better. And you know you can’t go wrong with their vanilla custard. Matt got his favorite root beer float, which he did claim is the best root beer float he’s ever had since it’s made with the world’s best frozen custard and best root beer.
It was great to get away, even if it was just for a day, but we really needed it! However, we are both exhausted and have another full day ahead, so we’re relaxing now before spending our day “off” with family + friends. Have a wonderful Memorial Day!
