long weekend
(I apologize ahead of time - this was written + photographed with my iPhone. I was too lazy to get out my computer when we got home...)We luckily have a 3 day weekend, thanks to MLK day. We spent most of the weekend at home, catching up on housework and planning, and of course spending time with the Peanut. We did make it out Sunday night with my family for a belated birthday dinner for Matt. His birthday is the day after Christmas, so we hardly ever actually celebrate on his birthday. But 3 weeks later is never too late, right? We headed downtown to Lafayette Square to dine + drink at Square One Brewery and Distillery. I started with a delicious Maple Stout. I'm definitely a dark beer girl and this had just a touch of sweetness that was perfect!
We split some appetizers to start. Soft pretzels with beer cheese sauce + mustard and goat cheese artichoke dip. The dip was to die for! All artichoke dips should be made with goat cheese.
They had several vegetarian options to choose from, which was nice. I ended up going for the grilled polenta with black beans, smoked tomatoes (!), and cheese. Simple but absolutely delicious!
I ate a little over half of it, expecting the 6 of us to be splitting dessert, but everyone else loved the food so much they finished their meals! (Oh, I also had a few of Matt's pub chips, which were very good!)MacKenna was pretty much an angel - a little fussy towards the end because she was tired and hungry, but otherwise, she is great when we go out!
We had to stop for gas on the way home and the gas station was conveniently close to Sheridan's Frozen Custard, one of my favorites! I wasn't hungry but wasn't full either and wanted something a little sweet. I was thankful that they don't close for the season since they are also a coffee shop! I got the Caramel Pretzel concrete, which is exactly how it sounds and a perfect post-beer dessert!
It was a delicious way to end the weekend! I'm off to spend my extra day with my baby girl! I'm so thankful to have 1 more day off to snuggle with her!Do you save room for dessert when you go out? What would be your perfect post-beer dessert?
