baby boy: 1 month (+ a giveaway)

I cannot believe Miles is already 1 month old!  I feel like time is flying, but at the same time, the days and weeks go by really slowly.  Ah, the life of a mom of 2... That's still so weird.  I turned to Matt the other day and said, "We have TWO KIDS!"So, what's my little Miles Guy up to this month?EatingBreastfeeding is going amazingly well!  I remember struggling with MacKenna so much the first few weeks.  Miles, however, latched immediately and has never looked back!  Apparently, breastfeeding is like riding a bike - you learn how to do it once and no matter how long you go without doing it, it comes back naturally (or at least that's how it was for me).  This boy is a great little eater.  He is eating about every 3 hours during the day and about every 3 hours at night as well.  I do feed him on a schedule during the day (although he wants to eat every 3 hours regardless) and we're still working on establishing that as I am trying to switch it up so that maybe the stretches at night get a little bit longer.  He's also pretty gassy, which doesn't help at night.  He spits up about every feeding but struggles to burp.  I don't get it.  I started giving him gas drops this past week to see if they help.  I'll let you know when I remember to give them to him regularly.I started pumping at 2 weeks and he has had a handful of bottles, and has taken them like a champ.  They don't even need to be warm for him to devour them.  He'll drink about 3 ounces in a bottle, which is perfect because that's how much I'm pumping every day.  I'm trying to build up my milk stash as much as possible now so that hopefully we don't have to start supplementing once I go back to work.  But, even if we do, no big deal... I'm still hoping to nurse for a year (although I don't particularly want to pump for 11 more months), but I'll be happy going 6-8 months.SleepingWhile we have a schedule for eating, I'm still working on his sleep schedule.  (I'm doing a loose Baby Wise schedule/routine.)  The first few weeks, he was sleeping A LOT during the day, but we are seeing his eyes more and more during the day now.  We just haven't quite established when (and where) he is going to sleep.  Right now, he is sleeping in our room at night because we felt like we were going into his room every 10 minutes when he fussed just so he wouldn't wake up MacKenna.  While it has helped a lot, I'm starting to get less sleep with him in our room because of the same reason.  I feel like I'm constantly having to stick a pacifier in his mouth (boy LOVES to suck) and that he is never happy.  I try to hold off feeding him as long as possible, especially as we get closer to 6 AM, but sometimes I give in and feed him, or just stick him on my chest and fall back asleep with him until about 6:30.  Probably not the greatest idea, but it seems to be working for now.  This is also one of the reasons why I'm trying to switch up our feeding schedule.During the day, he sleeps a lot on the Boppy lounger or in the swing or in someone's arms.  I am working to get him in his crib more and more, even if it's just for 20-30 minutes.  He loves being held.PersonalityIt's a little too early to tell, but I think he's going to be just as happy as MacKenna was as a baby.  We really have lucked out with two really great kids - and shoot, we make pretty darn cute ones!  He is so much fun to cuddle with and he is already watching us move across the room.  He adores Matt and gives him a lot more smiles than I get, especially when he gets home in the evening.  Can't wait until he's smiling more consistently!  I'm really trying my best not to wish each stage away and just enjoy it while I have it, but that really is one thing I am looking forward to more than anything.Big SisterOne of the questions I get most is how is MacKenna liking being a big sister?  At this point, she could give or take him.  While she can be incredibly sweet to him, giving him kisses and holding his hand, other times she wants nothing to do with him.  I think he is just at a stage where it's not really fun having a little brother because he doesn't do anything.  I think once he is reacting to her more, she'll be a little happier to be around him.  She is very starved for attention, which is obvious when I am feeding him.  She's been acting up a lot more and it makes me feel so bad.  I know eventually she will adjust, but right now, it is HARD.  Thankfully, she is really cute with him and calls him Miles William all the time.  It melts my heart!Other StuffWeight:  We don't go back to the doctor until next week, but I'm guessing he's between 7.5 and 8 pounds.Diapers:  We are in newborn cloth diapers (I'll write a post about cloth diapering the second baby), but otherwise he wears size 1.Clothes:  For the most part, he has outgrown newborn clothes but 0-3 months are still a bit too big.Likes:  Eating, sleeping, sucking on his pacifier, being held, the Ergo carrier (thank goodness)Dislikes:  Getting his diaper changed, baths, the carseat, tummy time (he could give or take on that though)Firsts:  Breath, bath, Christmas, party (New Year's Eve + birthday party), church service, smile + laugh (just recently!)
