We are officially one quarter through 2022. At this point in the year, I would typically give you an update on my reading goal so far this year. And of course, my reading list would be chock full of personal development books… because your girl LOVES her some personal development.

But, this year has looked a little different for me. Usually, come April, I’d have about 3-4 books (if I’m lucky) under my belt. And like I said, they’d usually ALL be personal development books. Not only do I have more than 4 books under my belt so far, the majority of them have NOT been personal development.

I know… the horror, right?!

Usually, I feel like I NEED personal development in my life. I need to make sure my mindset is right. I want to be sure I’m up on the latest trends in business that will move my business forward.

But, my brain just hasn’t been NEEDING that as much this year.

Last year, I worked with a cognitive behavior coach (I also got my life coaching certification through her), and I’ve learned so many great habits that mentally, I’m doing pretty good.

**Sidenote: when I say “mentally,” I mean with my mindset. As far as my mental health is concerned, I am still taking antidepressants as I deal with chronic depression. No amount of personal development or mindset work is going to change a chemical imbalance in my brain.**

And here’s the other thing…

I need to take a BREAK from business every now + then. Yes, I will continue to read personal + business development books as I come across ones I WANT to read. But, it’s not a bad thing to pick up a good mystery or thriller to unwind and turn your brain off for a bit.

And that’s exactly what I’ve been doing this year… and I’ve been FLYING through books because I truly do enjoy reading!

(If you want to see what I’ve been reading so far this year, you can follow me on Goodreads!)

But, believe it or not, this post isn’t about what books I’ve read so far this year. This post is about the BEST books I’ve read on productivity +/or personal development that I think you should add to your reading list ASAP!

**These are in no particular order. This post also contains affiliate links, so if you decide to purchase one of these books on Amazon using my links, I will get a small commission for your purchase.**

At Your Best

By Carey Nieuwhof

This is hands down my favorite book on productivity! Carey Nieuwhof and I have VERY similar views on how to increase your productivity, get more time in your day, and still get everything done on your to-do list. I highlighted SO much of this book, simply because his quotes were PERFECT and exactly what a lot of women in business need to hear when they’re struggling with what to do every day.

My favorite chapter was all about having your priorities high-jacked, which is what I see with a lot of my clients and my friends in business. That chapter alone is worth the read! It’s also $1.99 on Kindle right now!

Win The Day

By Mark Batterson

If you struggle with stress and getting things done every day, this is the book for you. I’ll talk more about James Clear in a few minutes, but I loved the simple strategies Mark Batterson taught in the book. I’m a big believer in habits and discipline, and this book will help you achieve both!

The Bullet Journal Method

By Ryder Carroll

I read this because it kept coming up in my suggested reads from the library. I’ve always been interested in bullet journaling, but the thought of creating these gorgeous, creative spreads just felt way too overwhelming. It was easier for me to just go by a $20 planner from Target than to create my own planner (except that’s exactly what I’m doing now).

To my surprise, this was less about creating beautiful spreads and more about taking notes in a way that make sense and keeps you organized. I’m still not a pro at this (I am TERRIBLE about updating my index), but this month I have stepped away from my store bought planner and have moved fulltime into a bullet journal. And no, it’s not a beautiful spread… but it’s something that works for ME and makes sense in my brain!

Atomic Habits

By James Clear

James Clear is THE King of Habits. If  you want to know how to build habits that last and help you achieve your goals, THIS is the book for you! This one is a quick read and one that I would actually recommend reading more than once. (I probably will read it again at the end of the year.) If you haven’t read it yet, you truly are missing out!

The Miracle Morning

By Hal Elrod

I have to admit, I actually don’t follow many of the practices in this book. It just didn’t work for what my morning routine looks like. BUT, if you don’t have a morning routine and want to be more productive with your time, this is a great book to get you started! He also has a TON of free resources for you that help you get your Miracle Morning setup. I know plenty of people who swear by this, and I honestly understand why it has changed their life. Definitely one you want to keep around and test out for yourself!

You can check out some of my other “book reviews” (I use that term loosely because I do NOT know how to write a book review) in these posts.

I would also recommend checking out this podcast by Jon Acuff (the author of Soundtracks which is one of my FAVORITE mindset books) on how to read more books this year!
