our love story

Happy Valentine’s Day!  Usually I don’t get too excited about this commercial holiday, but this year is extra special since we have a Mega Wedding to go to tonight!  I am beyond pumped and so excited for Kolby + Melissa!  I will hopefully have a late post up for you tomorrow for my WIAW about our delicious experience tonight!  I. Can’t. Wait!

I hate to bombard you with a ton of internet survey things, but this was super cute and it’s another fun way for you to get to know me better aside from what I talk about here on a semi-regular basis.  I saw Madeline post this and couldn’t wait to tell our love story and link up over at From Mrs. to Mama.  Without further ado, I give you Our Love Story:

1.  How long have you and your significant other been together?

Matt and I started dating on my 17th birthday – October 20, 2001.  We celebrated 10 years together by having our first (only?) child this past fall.

2.  How did you two meet?

We met my second day of work at Fritz’s Frozen Custard in May 2001.  Matt was the weekend manager at the time and he trained me how to do my job like a pro!  We worked almost every weekend day together for that entire summer in 2001.  While we talked for a long time and knew there was something between us, it took us until that fall to finally become a couple.

3.  If married, how long have you been married?

We were married July 7, 2007 (07.07.07) – so it’ll  be 5 years this July!  Crazy!  It certainly doesn’t feel like we’ve been married that long!

4.  If you are married, where did you get married?  Big or small wedding?

We got married in my hometown (St. Charles, MO) at the church I grew up in.  We had a pretty big wedding – 250 people.  Probably bigger than either of us wanted, but that’s OK.  It was a good time!

5.  Do you have any nick-names that you call each other?

Not really.  Babe or Baby, which gets confusing now with an actual baby in the mix.  He rarely ever calls me by my first name (few people do), so I’m used to be called Babe all the time.

6.  Name 3 things that you love most about your honey.

He makes me smile (and sometimes laugh) with his dumb jokes.  He totally ‘gets’ me – I’m pretty complicated and moody, and he puts up with me, most of the time.  He can read my mind.  He never gets tired of saying ‘I love you’.  He can talk to anyone for hours – even if he’s never met them before.  We are complete opposites, but I think that’s why I love him so much.

7.  Tell us how he proposed.

I was away at college 3 hours away from home.  It was the weekend before 1st semester finals my Junior year of college and my friends randomly decided that we should go out to breakfast that Saturday morning, just as a treat before we crammed for finals.  They had been acting really goofy around me for a few days – whispering when I walked out of the room and not including me in their secret conversations.  I was getting really frustrated and mad that I was wasting my precious studying time at breakfast with 2 people who seemed to be mad at me.  They asked me if we could stop by Walmart before heading back to the apartment and I reluctantly agreed.  My friend Stefanie thought she had left her watch on my bed the night before and wanted me to go check to see if I could find it before we went.  At this point, I was just plain mad.  So, I walked up the stairs to our house and opened the door to see our apartment covered it rose pedals and candles with our song “The Luckiest” playing in the background.  I was shocked when Matt walked out from our kitchen with a rose in his hand.  He hugged me and had me sit on the couch.  I have no idea what he said, but I remember seeing a ring and saying yes!  I couldn’t imagine a better proposal!

8.  Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day, or strawberries, roses, and champagne?

We don’t really do gifts, but we are more of a “give each other candy” type couple.  This year, we splurged on a Double Chocolate Stout.  It rocked!

9. Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop a movie in and relax on the couch?

While I think a romantic dinner on the beach would be AWESOME, we are homebodies and would rather pop in a movie and cuddle up together.

10. Tell us one thing you'd like to do with your significant one day. If you could do anything? Go anywhere?

I really want to take a nice trip together.  We really haven’t gone anywhere special just the 2 of us, and it would be nice to splurge on US and go someplace nice.  (NOT Gulf Shores or Branson.)  I would love to take him to Italy to see the Vatican and the artwork.

11. Tell us what you plan on doing on this Valentine's Day.

Kolby + Melissa’s wedding!  Again, I. Am. PUMPED!  It’s going to be a blast!

12. Are you asking for anything this Valentine's day?

Nope.  We don’t do gifts.  We’re only asking for a babysitter!  (Thanks Mom + Dad Van Horn!)

13. Give us one piece of advice of keeping a relationship strong and full of love.

Tell each other you love them all the time.  We will stop in the middle of something just to tell each other.  We never get off the phone without saying it and always make sure we have a good night kiss before bed.

14.  Show us a picture of what love means to you.
