on this day…
February 23rd, 2011. If it’s not your birthday/anniversary, then you probably didn’t think anything of the date. But, I did.
I had been waiting for this week, this DAY, for WEEKS. And, if you know me, I am not a very patient person. (OK, yes, I work with kids so I have some patience, but I HATE waiting.)
So, what was so very special about this day for me?
THIS:
My beloved Fritz’s is open for 2011! It has been the LONGEST 2 months of my life. If you read this blog, you may have noticed that all the frozen desserts I have been eating have been of ice cream form, not frozen custard (don’t mind the trip to Culver’s… that was less than a week ago).
I decided to go with a classic and one of my absolute favorites: the Corey-O concrete. Vanilla custard mixed with gooey caramel and crumbly Oreo cookies. Named after one of the Fritz boys, who just so happened to be working last night also. I love seeing family working at a family-owned business. It just makes it so much more personal.
Oh, Fritz’s… how I have missed your perfectly sized mini concretes and your rich + creamy custard. Perfectly mixed with just the right amount of caramel and Oreos. In the words of Rachael Ray, YUM-O.
Matt, of course, came and actually went for one of my other favorites that’s “off menu”. Vanilla custard with yellow cake batter and strawberries. I know, I know. It sounds weird, but believe me, it works! In his own words, “it’s like a strawberry shake made from cake.”
You know if you’ve ever worked at a fast food restaurant or other food service place how you don’t want to eat that food for a really long time. Yeah, that thankfully never happened to me with Fritz’s. I am seriously considering going once a week this season. And maybe challenge myself to try a NEW combination each week? That is a challenge I might be willing to take…
