memorial day weekend

I hope you all had a nice Memorial Day weekend!  Ours was pretty low key, for the most part, until Monday night.  But, I’ll get to that.

My weekend really started on Friday.  My BFF Julie just moved back to St. Louis after living in Chicago for the past almost 5 years.  Her daughter Molly is only 3 months younger than MacKenna so we are so excited to have some play dates together.  Friday, the 4 of us plus our other BFF Kristin met up for a picnic lunch and play date at the park.  The girls had so much fun together!

And per usual, we ended our play date at Fritz’s.  While MacKenna and Molly enjoyed their baby cones, I was enjoying a mini concrete with yellow cake batter and Oreos.  Seriously, so good!

Matt was gone at the Missouri State High School Track Meet Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, so my Friday night and Saturday were pretty boring.  Kenna and I went for a 6-mile stroller run on Saturday morning, and the cleaned and lazed around the rest of the day.  However, I did make it out of the house when Matt got home Saturday night to go to The Fabulous Fox to see Rock of Ages, which was excellent!  Sooooooo much better than the movie!

Sunday was really boring.  Church, Menards, Costco, Kohls, and Target.  I finally went swimsuit shopping for the first time since before I was pregnant.  I’m so thankful that I finally did, but it of course was kind of a blow to my self-esteem.  Ugh.  Why must swimsuit shopping suck so much?!  I only found one at Target that I liked, but am planning on going to Old Navy since their swimsuits are cheap and always fit really well.  Still looking for a good athletic swimsuit though.  Anyone know where I can find one?

Pretty much sums up our boring Sunday night.  Selfies with Matt photo bombing us.

Monday was our exciting day of the long weekend.  I woke up early Monday morning and ran to the gym for a quick CF Mamas workout before running home, grabbing MacKenna and finishing my run pushing her in the stroller.  Then we headed out to my aunt and uncle’s new house on the lake in Hillsboro for the day.  The day was filled with food and family and a few boat rides (not for us unfortunately) before it started raining.  Kenna was having a fabulous time playing with her (my) cousins until her finger got smashed in a door. :(

I watched the whole thing.  One of my little cousins opened the door to get something off the deck and didn’t see MacKenna’s finger was in the crack on the other side.  You have to push the door really hard to close it, and when I saw her try to push it close (over and over I might add), I heard MacKenna’s scream and knew her hand was in the door.  I couldn’t get to her fast enough and yanked the door open to get her finger out.  It was stuck in there for a good 15 to 20 seconds.  Her tears just absolutely broke my heart.  We tried putting ice on it, we ran it through cold water, I felt like we tried everything to get her to stop crying, until my uncle mentioned giving her some ice cream.  That definitely calmed her down.

I had my eye on her for the rest of the time we were there, her finger swollen three times the size it normally is, and she was guarding a lot – not picking toys up with it and keeping it pretty straight.  I really wasn’t sure if it was broken or not, but I told Matt when we got in the car to head home that I thought we should take her to the ER to get some x-rays just to make sure it wasn’t broken.

Waiting the ER for them to take x-rays.  Thank goodness for Goldfish crackers.  That at least kept her calm for a few minutes.

Thankfully, there wasn’t much of a wait in the ER when we got there and we were taken back to a room pretty quickly.  However, MacKenna was just absolutely miserable.  I don’t know if she was in pain or she just really despises doctors and hospitals, but she would not stop crying.  I don’t think she’s cried that much in the past year.  After a few x-rays, they determined that it wasn’t broken, just really badly bruised.  They buddy taped it to her middle finger (she hurt her index finger) with a bandaid since there was no splint or tape small enough for her tiny little fingers.

It’s never a dull day with this girl.  But, I am very thankful everything was OK.  And I’m glad that we did end up taking her because I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to sleep had we not.

So, what started as a pretty mellow, boring Memorial Day weekend certainly had an “exciting” ending!

How was your long weekend?  Did you have anything exciting happen (hopefully good exciting, unlike ours)?
