Do you ever feel like you're constantly juggling too many things and you can't seem to get ahead? Here are some tips on how to prioritize your time and tasks.

No one ever said being an entrepreneur was easy. It's a lot of work, and it can be hard to know where to focus your time and energy.

Are you putting enough effort into your business?
Are you neglecting your family or personal life?
How do you balance it all?

These are tough questions, but they're important ones to ask if you want to be successful.

Believe it or not, prioritizing things has not always been my strong suit. When I was first starting as a business owner, I worked as a virtual assistant, so I was taking on a few clients at a time, helping them with some backend tech things, writing and scheduling blog posts, etc.

At the same time, I also had my son home with me 2 days a week. And if you’ve ever worked at home with kids around, you know it’s getting up every 5 seconds to get a snack or keep them entertained.

I was trying to do work and also take care of my son, but I felt scattered and annoyed. I felt like I NEVER had enough time to get everything done AND still have time to spend quality time with my son. I was constantly distracted and felt like I couldn’t fully focus on any one thing.

Here’s the reality… I couldn’t do both because I wasn’t prioritizing anything.

When I was playing with my son, I was checking my email instead of being present with him. And when I was trying to work, I was never putting the most important or urgent things first.

You might have a mile-long to-do list that just seems to keep on growing. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t get things crossed off your to-do list AND still have time for your family.

Priorities aren’t just the things on our to-do list. Your priorities are also the things that you find valuable in your everyday life. It’s how you create a schedule that you actually ENJOY waking up to (despite whether or not you have a job you love).

And it’s the foundation of my Productivity Pyramid - you can’t feel accomplished and stress-free until you have learned how to prioritize.

Think about 3 things you’d like to have time to do today. Not just the things on your to-do list. But, if you could have the perfect, ideal day, what would you actually get done?

For me, I’d have time for my family - and not just me not doing work or things around the house, but actually being PRESENT with them.

I’d also have time to fit in exercise because it’s not only good for my physical health, but for my mental health as well. And sometimes, that’s the only time I get to myself every day.

Lastly, I’d have time to get the urgent or important things crossed off my to-do list. It doesn’t mean that I’d be getting EVERYTHING done, but choosing 2-3 things that I want to get done today will help me feel a sense of accomplishment - and be one less thing I have to worry about tomorrow.

I want you to notice something about this list: it doesn’t involve other people’s expectations of me. It’s what I deem as priorities. But, here’s the good news… all of this helps OTHER people. My family gets to spend time with me (and have a mom who is mentally stable), my clients have their needs met because I’m doing important tasks for them, and my business grows because I know what’s important.

At the end of the day, it’s important to remember that we can only do so much. Prioritizing our time and focusing on what’s truly important is essential for a happy, productive life. Applying these tips should help you get your to-do list under control and make progress on the things that matter most.
