food truck friday fail

A few weeks ago, Sauce Magazine announced the first Food Truck Friday in St. Louis.  Food trucks are becoming extremely popular in the St. Louis area and this was a way to get a chance to try several food trucks all in one spot.

I have been looking forward to Food Truck Friday for weeks now.  Specifically, I was looking forward to trying one truck:  the Falafelwich Wagon.  I have been craving falafel like crazy lately and what better way than tasting one from a food truck!  It’s like a match made in heaven.

So, Matt + I, along with my wonderful brother + sister-in-law, headed out to Tower Grove Park to get some grub.  While I had my sights set on a Falafelwich, Matt was looking forward to trying some of the other trucks.

We set down our blanket and Matt went to get in line for the Cha Cha Chow truck since their line was getting pretty long, while I waited for my big bro to show up.  The crowds started getting larger and the lines got longer and longer.  I finally got in line just as Brian + Sara were getting to the park.  As soon as they turned to go get in line for the Pi Truck, I saw it drive away.

Uh oh, this was not a good sign.  If Pi Truck was already sold out an hour and a half into the event, the others weren’t going to last too much longer.  My line kept creeping closer and closer to the truck, and when I was about 5 people away, I heard those dreaded words.  Sold. Out.

I was on the verge of tears as I walked over to see Matt had already placed his order and the Cha Cha Chow line was longer than ever.  I really wanted a falafel.  Nothing else was going to even come close to the delicious fried chickpea ball in my mouth.  But, there was nothing I could do about it.  Matt was going to have his food soon and this pregnant girl was going to go hungry if I didn’t pick a line to stand in.

Truck after truck began selling out of things and I could tell this just wasn’t going to be our night.  Instead, we decided to leave empty-handed (except for Matt’s two tacos) and head to my absolute favorite place.

You can never go wrong with pizza, especially Dewey’s.  Matt and I shared a half Billy Goat and half Green Lantern pizza minus the goat cheese (which was very noticeable – you really need that tangy sharp cheese to balance out the pizza).  Definitely made my night a little bit better.

But what really helped me get over my falafel-less night was hitting up FroYo for dessert.  Nothing cheers me up more than a delicious frozen dessert to satisfy my sweet tooth.

And I must say, Fruity Pebbles on ice cream is another favorite.  Oh so yummy!

So, although we failed with the food trucks, the night still turned out pretty well.  I will definitely be seeking out the Falafelwich Wagon as my craving for falafel is stronger than ever!
