The Concrete Runner - A Day in the LifeMy alarm goes off at a ridiculously early time - although I can't complain too much.  It's still later than it was just two weeks ago when I was still nursing Miles in the morning.  Now, at 4:30 AM, I check the weather as there is an alert on my phone letting me know we are under a Winter Weather Advisory until noon.  I'm praying for a snow day, or at least a 2-hour late start.  I end up hitting snooze and sleep for 8 more minutes.Once my snooze alarm goes off, I check Facebook for a few minutes before hopping in the shower to get ready for the day.  Thankfully, MacKenna was only up once in the middle of the night last night (she needed something out of her playroom *sigh*) so I'm not as exhausted as I thought I would be.  But, the day off on Monday was nice, allowing me to get a few extra hours of shut-eye over the weekend.I hop out of the shower and get ready for the day.  I still religiously check my phone, hoping for that phone call, even though I am already up and showered.  It would just be nice to have a shorter work day, but again, I can't complain since I had the day off Monday. It's now 5:55 AM and I quickly feed the cat and move the laundry into the dryer and start it so it's finished by the time Matt leaves for work.  I go get MacKenna up, but she's not budging, so I pick out some clothes for her and get her dress while she continues to lay in bed and try to squirm away from me.  I carry her out to the living room, plop her on the couch, and turn on "Super Why" for her to watch. Now, it's Miles' turn.  He's still sound asleep so I get his clothes out and grab a diaper, then scoop him out of bed.  We open the blinds and get breakfast for MacKenna before I lay him down on the floor to change him.  I try to wait as long as possible before putting on a new diaper since that first pee of the morning always seems to go through the diaper and onto his clothes.  He's content laying on the ground after I'm done changing him, so I let his lay there and watch TV while I go get my breakfast ready.By 6:25, I know I need to get my shoes on and warm-up the car.  Still no phone call for a snow day, so I guess I do have to go to work.  I take my bag and lunch to the car and get the car toasty warm.  I give everyone in the house a kiss goodbye and head out to my car, breakfast and coffee in hand.  I'm out of the driveway by 6:34.There are a lot of salt trucks out and traffic is ridiculously slow for a Tuesday going the opposite direction of downtown.  But, I'm making good time so far so I enjoy the few extra minutes in my car, listening to the radio and news about the Grammy's that I really didn't watch the night before.I arrive at school right around 7:10 and head straight to my office, turn on my computer, and pull out my planner to start figuring out what needs to be done for the day.  I get a call around 7:30 that my co-teacher overslept and just left his house, so he'll be a little late.  At 7:35, I head out of my office, right down the Quote for the Day, and get this kids ready to go to listen to the announcements.IMG_3706My first hour was not one of my best, even though they are usually one of my better classes (and that's saying a lot if you knew who was in it).  They're lacking motivation today and are not happy that I switched up their groups.  I'm hoping these new groups will force more motivation on them, but only time will tell.  Today was not successful though. The rest of the morning went OK.  Pickleball, badminton, and ping pong for my PE kids and giving presentations in my health class.  Followed by my plan period smack dab in the middle of the day, which I love.  I made some copies, looked over some track stuff (that was totally overwhelming), read a little bit, and ate my lunch.  Today was pretty much the first day I haven't had homework in awhile - and I'm caught up on most of my planning too!IMG_3707The rest of the afternoon was more of the same.  More presentations with my worst class (ugh) and more net games with my 6th graders.  It was a pretty uneventful day, but I'd rather it be uneventful than raise my stress level up even slightly!  I like leaving work without a blood pressure headache...I change clothes and head up to the "fitness center" for a quick WOD before my run.  I did as many rounds as possible in 7 minutes of 10 push-ups and 15 kettlebell swings with a 25 pound kettlebell.  I debated all day whether or not I wanted to run outside or on the treadmill, but with 40-degree temps, I just couldn't justify running on the treadmill.  So, outside I went.  40 minutes at 85% of my 5K race pace (7:56/mile) - I ended up getting in just over 5 miles in 40 minutes!IMG_3719After a quick stretch, I grabbed my protein bar, Nuun drink, and got in my car to head home.  I talked to my mom for a few minutes and then almost got run off the road by someone who decided not to look in their blindspot.  Awesome.I arrive home right around 5 PM and immediately take over kiddo-duty so that Matt can get dinner ready.  Miles and I play with his cars on the floor and MacKenna sits on the couch to put on makeup.IMG_3729Dinner is ready right at 6 PM and we sit down as a family to eat, which is always one of my favorite parts of the day.  Matt made veggie quiche, which was delicious as always, and Miles stole plenty of our crust to eat (mostly Matt's because Mommy doesn't like to share).Once we are all finished with dinner, I go get Miles in PJs and we head back to the living room for some more family + playing time before it's time to feed Miles.  I grab some M&M's and Miles and I cuddle up on the couch for our nightly nursing session, while Matt + MacKenna play on the iPad on the other couch.IMG_3728It's finally bedtime.  We brush teeth, put on PJs, and read Pete the Cat and Lady with the Alligator purse before saying prayers and singing songs.  Miles goes down in seconds and MacKenna only requires one extra stop into her room.Once the kids are down, Matt heads next door for poker night with some of the neighbor guys and I get my lunch ready for tomorrow, brush my teeth, and wash my face.  Then, it's time to finish up some laundry and work while watching my new favorite show, Fixer Upper.  I get this blog post ready to publish for Wednesday and head into bed right at 10 PM.  Let's pray for a quiet night from the kids...
