How to start living as the best version of YOU
I will be honest…July was a struggle for myself + my confidence. I was dwelling on a bunch of things that just weren’t working for me and I wasn’t showing up as the confident, brave woman that I KNOW I am meant to be.I was living in so much fear of what other people were thinking and I was really just holding myself back - and it totally showed in my self talk and the way I was showing up online. This month, I’ve made a promise to myself that I absolutely refuse to break. And that is to STOP CARING WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THING.Here’s the deal…If you are so worried about everyone else, you are not living up to your full potential.I know it sounds selfish to say you should only care about you, but really, why are other people in charge of the way YOU live YOUR life?Girl, YOU are the only one who is control of what happens in YOUR life! You only have this one life (I know, shocker, right?!), so are you really going to let someone else tell YOU what you can + can’t do?And believe me, I’ve been there. I have lived in fear for YEARS. I still revert back to that “what will they think” fear, well, probably almost weekly. But, like I said, I want to be true to myself and what I believe in; what I stand for; what my dreams are.Last week, I saw the Made for More movie, which is a documentary of Rachel Hollis’ RISE weekend retreat for women. I’ve never been MORE fired up after seeing a movie. One thing she said that struck me so hard: You are the only person who cares about your dreams. You are the only person who can make your dreams become a reality. As I’ve reflected since then, I knew there were so many things standing in my way of where I want my life to go. Because I KNOW I was made for more. Today, I wanted to share with you the things that are helping me show up DAILY as the best version of myself, in hopes that it will help YOU do the same:
1. Write down your goals AS IF they have already happened.
Instead of writing my goals for WHEN they happen, I am writing them as if they have already happened. It’s as simple as changing a word or 2. Instead of writing, “I want to make $10K every month,” you change the wording to, “ I am making $10K every month.” Start living AS IF they have already happened so that you start acting like you are already there! And don’t just write them down and forget it. Write them down DAILY… I literally have a notebook where I write down my goals every single day, and then I read them outloud to myself. This gets me in the mindset to start living + acting as if I’ve already achieved these things.
2. Do one thing every day that scares the sh*t out of you.
Y’all, I LOVE being comfortable. I want to stay as far away from the outside of my comfort zone as possible. (Did that make sense? You get it, right?!) I have anxiety and that butterflies, heart pounding, sweaty palms feeling is something I absolutely hate. But, you know where fear has gotten me? NOWHERE. Literally, stuck in the same place over and over again. Anytime I wasn’t feeling confident, I was sitting inside my comfort zone. Anytime I wasn’t making progress in myself, my running, my life, my business, I was sitting inside my comfort zone.I’m not saying you need to take drastic measures and do CRAZY things. I’m saying, if it terrifies you to text an influencer to tell them you admire them, DO IT. If you are thinking about applying for that new job or position but don’t feel like you’re qualified, DO IT. If it scares the sh*t out of you, DO IT.
3. Stop breaking promises to yourself.
This was another Rachel Hollis thing. Y’all, just like comfort, I LOVE making excuses. I’m too busy. It’s raining. I’M SCARED. I’ll start tomorrow.Um, HELLO?! Why are we making promises to ourselves that we are continuing to break. And how can we possibly expect to keep a promise to someone else when we can’t even keep them to ourselves?!Go back to #2 - what scares you? What are you afraid to do? What do you keep putting off, or saying you’ll start tomorrow, or Monday, or months from now?Make the promise to yourself - just ONE - that you’re going to start doing something. For me, it’s stop hitting the snooze. I am TERRIBLE at this and I used to not ever be. It has nothing to do with willpower - it has to do with EXCUSES. I need to stop making the excuse to skip something or do less because that gets me NOWHERE. I am making the promise to myself to STOP PRESSING SNOOZE in the morning, to get my ass out of bed, and stay on schedule for once in my life. And you know what, I KNOW that’s going to set me up for success later on in the day to do those things that scare me, to live AS IF I have already achieved my goals.Stop making excuses and start showing up as the best version of YOU.
