30-Days to Habit Change [FEBRUARY 2020]

Last year, I started something new…

I would pick ONE HABIT that I wanted to improve (either do more or do less of) and focus on that for one entire month. 30 days. That’s it.

While I didn’t quite commit to doing this every month, I would say that I focused on a new monthly habit 8 out of the 12 months. Some of the ones I focused on…

>> A green smoothie for breakfast

>> Drinking 3-liters of water

>> Giving up sweets (this went hand-in-hand with the Lenten season)

>> Not pressing snooze

But, there was ONE habit that really had a lasting impact after those 30 days…⠀

Starting my day with a devotional every morning.

A little backstory...

I was raised in a Christian home (Lutheran, to be exact).

I went to Lutheran school from Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Our family was VERY involved in the church.

My brother went on to become a teacher + music minister for Lutheran schools and churches.

My kids go to Lutheran preschool.

We are regular church goers and send our kids to Sunday School every Sunday.

But, I knew SOMETHING was missing in all that...

A RELATIONSHIP with God.

I've been feeling this pull on my heart that I needed to do more, and I knew that I wanted to understand + apply Biblical teaching to my personal life. But, I didn't know how to pray, I didn't know how to listen to what God was telling me to do. I kept asking for signs and hoping something would happen.

But, that relationship with Him was missing.

For the last 6 months, the first thing I do in the morning is a 5-minute devotional with the YouVersion Bible app.

And it's transformed not only my relationship with God, but I feel so much stronger in my faith that it's transformed my life.
